The Dr. Giles Method
At Addiction Doctors, we transform substance use disorder and mental health care using”The Giles Method.”
We understand the unique challenges substance abuse treatment facilities face in providing the best care to their clients. Our method, developed over two decades by our founder,Jason Giles, M.D., is a comprehensive approach designed to transform client outcomes and elevate the effectiveness of your facility’s clinical team.
Our method begins before your client even arrives, with the careful selection of a dedicated and highly skilled medical team. We bring together top medical providers, nurses, and an extensive support staff, each one chosen for their expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to excellence in our field. Your clients receive the highest standard of care from professionals deeply invested in their recovery. To facilitate communication, promote camaraderie and ensure a common fund of knowledge among all staff involved in client care, we train your care team, too. Through our Behavioral Health Tech School, a program of education, support and skills verification, your techs’ confidence and ability will soar.
The best way to avoid prematuredepartures from treatment is to anticipate them, so our first point of client contact occurs prior to their arrival. We develop a thorough understanding of a prospective client’s needs and potential challenges to screen out those who may be too ill to successfully participate in treatment. Using a sixteen-point medical, psychiatric, and substance use disorder screening tool, we are able to position the client and the care team for the best chance at a great outcome.
When your clientarrives, our team is ready to help him or her settle in on the first day. Thisfirst contact with us is a warm, supportive welcome and sets a positive tone for their stay.Fear of a miserable detox is the main reason clients avoid coming to treatment, so we make it a priority to answertheir questions and assure them they won’t suffer in our care as they transition away from chemical dependency.Alleviating anxiety dramatically lowers the occurrence of Against Therapeutic Advice (ATA) departures, and is especially important in the first days of recovery. Our focus on early and empathetic engagement ensures clients feel valued and heard right off the bat, making them more likely to stay and engage meaningfully with your clinical team.
The development of an individualized treatment plan is the heart of The Giles Method. Our approach is rooted in evidence-based practices, with each plan carefully tailored to the client’s unique circumstances. We emphasize comfort and frequent follow-up, establishing a trusting relationship that fosters a safe and supportive environment. Our continuous collaboration with your on-site team allows us to quickly identify and address any issues, ensuring client care remains seamless and effective.
Meticulous documentation is another key component. We maintain gold-standard records of every step in the client’s journey. This facilitates team cohesion and supports maximum length of stay requests made to payors. Comprehensive, clear documentation not only supports superior client outcomes but also enhances operational efficiency and team coordination within your facility.
As clients progress throughtreatment, we place a strong emphasis on education and aftercare planning. We equip clients with the knowledge and resources they need to sustain their recovery long after they leave your facility. Our robust aftercare planning includes connecting clients with alumni support networks, providing ongoing encouragement and resources to help them maintain a fulfilling, addiction-free life. For our mental health clients, we explain how their medication and behavior therapy interventions work, demystifying any complexities in their treatment plans to promote optimal outcomes.
The Method’s final step is to coordinate aftercare resources. An often-overlooked ally of the newly sober client is their hometown care team. We contact the client’s local primary care doctor to help them understand what was done for their patient, and address important aftercare issues like Suboxone maintenance, psychiatric medication refills and adjustments, and when to stop medications.

Founder’s Statement
The founding of Addiction Doctors stems from a deeply personal experience that changed the trajectory of my life. Twenty-five years ago, after realizing my dream of becoming an anesthesiologist, I became addicted to fentanyl—a drug that was then only available in hospitals. My habit escalated quickly, spinning my life completely out of control. Unable to stop on my own, in despair I sought help through California’s Physician’s Health Program, a specialized treatment plan aimed at supporting medical professionals with substance use disorders. In a humbling twist of fate, I left the OR and a job I loved to check into rehab.
The doctor became a patient.
It’s no exaggeration to admit that program was my saving grace, guiding me toward recovery and inspiring me to devote my career to helping others free themselves from addiction, but it wasn’t all rosy. Rehab afforded me valuable insight into some of the ways we doctors get it wrong when it comes to treating addiction. As I set out on a new professional path, I saw the need for a fresh approach, one that replaced the outmoded methods so prevalent in the field with a mix of cutting-edge scientific research and the kind of compassion and empathy that mostly characterized my experience in the Physician’s Health Program. Drawing on my own journey, I developed an approach that assumes by the time someone seeks help for addiction, they have suffered enough. My method uses every science-backed tool in the box to ease the discomforts of detox because I’ve been there, and I know how frightening and unpleasant it can be. I understand, too, how transformative a genuine, empathetic connection is at such a fragile time. Scientific rigor and compassionate care are equally important to my approach, and their combination has proved unbeatable in supporting patients through detox and stabilization.
Over the past two decades, together with my team I’ve had the privilege of aiding over 10,000 people on their road to recovery. With the advent of telemedicine, we’ve been able to revolutionize our process, making treatment more accessible, responsive, and cost-effective for patients, with the unexpected but pleasant surprise that they often find it easier to open up and receive guidance via this virtual platform than in person. Recognizing the interconnectedness of mental health and substance use disorders, we readily incorporate psychiatry into our treatment process. This holistic approach has proved essential in addressing dual diagnoses and facilitating comprehensive healing. I have no doubt this approach leads to more successful outcomes.
As I look back, I am grateful for my own recovery from addiction and the incredible opportunity to dedicate myself to the care of others with the same problem. Every day I’m humbled to know that the work we do inspires others to put chemical dependency behind them. Everyone we help to live a healthier life can inspire someone else struggling with addiction to do the same, and this carry-forward potential makes me more excited than ever to do what I do. I have never been more optimistic about the future of the field, especially now that telemedicine increases its reach and responsiveness.
